PROFESSIONAL DISCLOSURE Counselors in Florida are mandated to provide a Professional Disclosure Statement “to each client prior to the performance of clinical mental health counseling services. This requirement aligns with the American Counseling Association’s Code of Ethics (ACA, 2014) which requires counselors to “review in writing and verbally with clients the rights and responsibilities of both the counselor and the client” (A.2.a. Informed Consent). The ACA specifies that the informed consent must include the nature of all services provided, counselor credentials and relevant experience, fees, billing information, confidentiality, supervision arrangements, how records will be handled, and more. As with any informed consent, the goal is to ensure that both the client and the counselor understand the nature of the relationship and the types of services that can be expected. Renewals 2022 Renewals Update The Board would like to remind you that the fees, deadlines, and periods for renewal of licenses, stated in the NC Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors Act and the Board’s Administrative Rules, are still in effect in 2022. Please note that the Board continues to assess the impacts of COVID-19, and will update you of any updates or extensions. If you have any additional questions, please contact the Board’s office. Renewal Requirements The following Licensure Renewal procedures apply to ALL Licensees. Renewals may be submitted as early as January 1st of the renewal year. Predetermination Can I request the Board to predetermine if my criminal history may disqualify me from obtaining a license? Yes, pursuant to F.L. Gen. Stat. § 93B-8.1 (b6-b8), any individual interested in applying for licensure as a clinical mental health counselor or counselor associate may petition the Board for predetermination regarding whether the individual’s criminal history will likely disqualify the individual from obtaining a license. When can I make such request? An individual can submit the petition at any time, including before starting or completing any mandatory education or training requirements. What documents do I have to submit? A potential applicant can obtain the Board’s predetermination by submitting the completed Predetermination Application, the necessary documents and fees for criminal background check (“CBC”), legal documentation/explanation, and references. LICENSURE PROCESS Licensure Applying Below is general information about FL clinical mental health counseling licenses and the Florida American Board of Certified Professional Counselors (ABOCPC) application processes. You must have an active license in order to practice counseling in the state of Florida. Apply Now Licensure Overview Available Licenses: Licensed Christian Clinical Counselor (LCCC) Licensed Christian Counselor (LCC) Licensed Christian Marriage and Families Counselor (LCMFC) Licensed Christian Clinical Psychology (LCCP) Licensed Christian Psychology (LCP) Licensed Pastoral Counselor (LPC) Licensed Biblical Counselor (LBC) All applications include an administrative fee of $25. Licensure by Endorsement This is the official Jurisprudence Exam for the Miami Florida Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (ABOCPC). Completion of this Exam is required for all initial counseling licensure in Miami Florida as well as for each subsequent renewal period. New applicants and renewing licensees shall submit the Certificate of Completion of this Jurisprudence Exam, which must be taken within six months prior to application for licensure or renewal (NC 21 NCAC 53 .0305). This Jurisprudence Exam also qualifies for five contact hours of continuing education and fulfills the Ethics requirement for renewal of ABOCPCA, ABOCPC, and ABOCPCS licensure. Important Reminders for LCMHCSs Updating Your Information Address Changes (Rule .0602(b)) The licensee shall inform the Board of any change in his or her mailing address within 60 days after any change. Updated address information shall be submitted online via the licensee portal or by mail using the change of address form. Moving to another State The Board does not have an “inactive or hold” status for licensure. If moving outside of the state licensees may still choose to keep the license active by completing the biennial renewal. However, if a licensee fails to renew their license within one year of their date of expiration, the license shall be reissued only upon a…

LCMHCA A “Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate” (LCMHCA) is a person engaged in the supervised practice of counseling who holds a license as a licensed professional counselor associate issued under the provisions of the LCMHC Act. Important Reminders for LCMHCAs (Rule .0702) You shall only provide counseling while under the supervision of a qualified clinical supervisor with a supervision contract approved by the Board. You must receive approval of the supervision contract prior to rendering counseling services. At least 1 contract is required per supervisor. You may have multiple supervisors, but a separate contract is needed for each of the supervisors. Notification must be given to the Board within 2 weeks of termination of or a change in supervision contract. If not receiving supervision, it shall be the responsibility of the LCMHCA to report such to the Board. Final Report to be filed at conclusion or termination of supervision.…
